Mr J. Wright returned yesterday from Napier.
Mr and Mrs C. McDonald were passengers toy yesterday’s express from Christchurch.
Messrs P. Ballantine and W. Stewart of Wellington, are at present visiting Greymouth. Mr. E. G. M. Russell, uf the Government Life Insurance Department;, will leave next Tuesday on transfer to the head office, Wellington.
Mr. H. Turtill left yesterday morning on return to Christchurch, after visiting Mr.- and Mrs. J. B Bluett, Winnie Street.
Mrs. E. McFerron of Christchurch, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. D. Mcßeth, Karoro, left yesterday morning on her return.
Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Ewing, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. S. McDonnell, Nelson Street, left yesterday morning on return to Christchurch.
The Air Department has advised Mr. I. F. Zampese that he has been successful in obtaining his pilot’s commercial licence at the recent examination held in Christchurch. Passing with distinction, he gained 95 per cent, of the possible marks.
The death occurred yesterday of Mr Leopold George Dyke Acland, tor many years a prominent Canterbury high country station owner, and the author of “The Early Canterbury Runs.” —P.A.
The death has occurred of Lieutenant H. S. Coupland, who was officer in charge of the Second N.Z.E.F. divisional postal unit during the desert '•campaign, states a Wellington message. Lieutenant Coupland went overseas with the second echelon and was invalided back to New Zealand in 1943.

Rev. Professor John Baillie, Chaplain to the King, and the Very Rev. Parvis Boyes, former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of England, have been visiting the Glaciers after attending Ihe Otago Centennial Celebrations. Professor Baillie will pass through Greymouth this afternoon on his way to Nelson, while Very Rev. Mr. Boyes, who is travelling north, will stay in Greymouth as the guest of the Rev. T. G. and Mrs. Campbell.
