Before Mr. C. H. Thomas, J.P., a first offender on a charge of drunkenness was convicted and discharged. Residents living near the Esplanade are complaining of the leaves blowing into their back yards, on to lawns and around back doors. A commencement has been made with clearing the Buller River of snags. A Public Works Deuartment bulldozer on loan to the Marine Department made a start last week dragging snags out of the river above the Buller Bridge. Owing to the recent rains work has been discontinued. The steam crane on the- wharf has broken a shaft and is out of commission at present.
