“You have a very long list against you, and you have pleaued guilty to several counts to-day,” said iVlr M. J. He pleaded guilty to ail charges, electing to be dealt with summarily on the, charge of using obscene language. Darling’s apperance before the court was the third he had made in Greymouth within four weeks. He was convicted on a charge of being idle and disorderly on March 22, by Mr A. A. McLachlan, S.M., after he had given himself up to the Greymoutn police for the second time. He. was arrested in Blackball on Tuesday afternoon by Constable A. E. K. Keown. For the police, Sergeant H. O. Hansen said that late on Tuesday afternoon. Darling was arrested by Constable Keown, and when told that he was beng taken in custody he used certain language as set. out in the charge, and wanted to fight the constable. There were people about at the time, the incident having occurreo outside the Post Office. Whilst being taken to the Police Station, Darling violently resisted the constable. He had received £2 of his wages on the day of the offence, but when questioned about the unpaid rail fare, was not willing to tender the reauired amount. Asked if he had anything to say, Darling replied: “It is only drink that causes it. That is all I have to say.” After making the remarks mentioned above, Mr Fogarty sentenced accused to one month’s imprisonment on the obscene language charge, and convicted and discharged him oh the others. Mr N. V. Lovell was associated with Mr Fogarty on the bench.
