OBITUARY
MR JOSEPH RALEIGH The death occurred last evening at his residence, Cobden, of Mr. Joseph Raleigh, late Railway Goods Foreman on the Greymouth Wharf, and until his retirement about five years ago, one of the best known railway officials in the district. A native of Ballarat, Victoria, the late Mr. Raleigh, who was 66 years of age, came in his youth to New Zealand, and as a young man he entered the service of the old Manawatu Railway Company, whose lines ran between Wellington, Palmerston and other centres on the West Coast of the North Island, until the Company’s service was taken over by the State. Mr. Raleigh transferred with it to Government employ, and later was transferred to the West Coast, being stationed first for five years at. Reefton as guard. About thirty years ago he transferred to Greymouth and since then he had resided with his wife and family at Cobden. Besides his wife he leaves four of a family—two sons James and John (of Cobden), and two daughters. Sister Mary Laboure (St. Mary’s Convent. Christchurch), ard Miss Joan Raleigh (Cobden). He is also survived by a brother and a sister in Australia. The funeral takes place to-morrow morning, following Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church.
