A hostel, which will be equal to any of its kind, is being constructed at Ohai to accommodate more than 30 coalminers. It is part of the Government’s plan to attract more men to the mining industry and eventually similar hostels will be erected In other mining centres. The hostel which is expected to be finished by the end of the year, will have an abultion room, with an adequate number of showers, reading, writing and, recreation rooms, lounge, laundry, ironing room, dining room and cafeteria. It is proposed to lay out two tennis courts, also, in the grounds. Already in operation at Ohai and backed by the State is a restaurant where the men are served with their breakfast, lunch and dinner at reasonable rates, and where they may also obtain cut lunches.

Owing to “Beast with Five Fingers” to be screened at the Opera House on Friday, Saturday and Monday being unsuitable for children, a special programme has been arranged for Saturday's matinee, consisting of three newsreels, two comedies, Sportslight, Cinesound Review the N.Z. Film Unit, Serial, Joe Louis v. Joe Walcott Fight. Sports Parade, Broadway Brevity, and “Roaring Guns” (in technicolour).—Advt.
