GREY LABOUR PARTY MEETS
The president, Mr P. Blanchfield, presided over a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Greymouth Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party in the Lyceum Hall last evening. A resolution of sympathy with tne relatives of the late Mr James Conaghan, a member of the branch, was carried in silence. Miss M. Anderson, M.L.C., was appointed to represent, the Branch at the annual conference in Dunedir next month. Nine new members, recommended by the Executive, were elected. ’ A lengthy report on repairs and renovHtioiis prcpcircct in conjunction with a builder, was. presented by Mr P. O’Farrell. Mr O'Farrell was thanked for his report. The Westland L.R.C. was granted the use of the Lyceum Hall on Saturday, May 22, for the purposes of an intor-branch social. The reports of L.R.C. delegates and the social cornmitee were read and adopted. , 2 A donation of £lO was made to the social committee in appreciation of their work during the past year. COAL BRIQUETTING The question of a f -oal briquetting works at Stillwater was discussed at length, and it was decided to ask Air J. B. Kent, M.F., to make representations to the Minister of Mines, the lion. A. McLagan, to give consideration to the project. It was pointed out by speakers that Stillwater wat the natural centre of the coal transport svstem of the West Coast. Mr Blanchfield said that the matter of creating siich an industry on the West Coast was one which should receive the attention of all local organisations. So far only the claims of Buller and Canterbury had been advanced.
