WATAROA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent) Until yesterday the weather had been excellent for farmers engaged in autumn sowing and fertilising. Settlers in the Loan Block are hoping that there will be undertaken some division of the streams which in flood-time are prone to erode the land. At the recent Federated Farmers Branch meeting speakers urged that some relief is necessaary, especially as the farmers concerned are producers in butter-fat, pig meat etc., to quite a good amount, and they would appreciate early action by the authorities. Dragline scoops for clearing streams are here regarded as a good usage, as it serves both to control the flow and to pile up embankments against . overflow. Franz Joseph district farmers have been breaking in land and discing it. A great improvement, results after top-dressing. With the aid of super and lime, clover is then given ascendancy over weeds. Mr Wm. Read, of the Railway Department, was a recent visitor from the North, his daughter being a resident of Wataroa. Mr A. Nolan has returned after ;> holiday up North. Mrs S. Rowthan is back after an Easter vacation.
