British Intervene With Artillery LONDON-, April 4. Jerusalem had day-long fighting on Sunday between Jews and Arabs. British troops used machine-guns and artillery. The British Army fired six-pounder shells into the Monte Fiore quarter to silence Jewish guns firing on the Arab-held Jaffa Gate. The deaths in Palestine included one Jew and three Arabs, bringing the toll since the United Nations partition decision to 2307. t A British Army officer was seriously wounded when he stepped on a mine in the Armenian quarter. NEW OIL PIPELINE NEW YORK, April 4. The British Government has authorised the High Commissioner tor Palestine to grant a franchise for the construction of another pipeline across Palestine to the Iraq Petroleum Company, which operated the pipeline from Iraq to Haifa, says tne New York Times. The company, which is composed of British, American, Dutch and French oil interests, has agreed to pay £45,000,000 annually for the franchise.
