HOKITIKA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent) HOKITIKA, April 2. The Gael arrived from Wellington at 6 a.m. to-day with cargo. After discharge she will load silver Pi ne posts for Wanganui and will sail for Wanganui at 7 a.m. to-morrow. The Rugby football season will open in Hokitika on Saturday, April 10 with regular competition matches. The Hokitika senior teams will play with Greymouth teams. The junior grade competitions will commence on Saturday, April 17. The matches for lower grades under the direction of the Junior Advisory Board will commence at Cass Square on Saturday morning, April 10 when players will assemble in Hokitika from all country districts under the jurisdiction of the Westland Rugby SubUnion. REVUE SOCIETY. The Hokitika Revue Society members are well under way with their new revue to be produced during May. New voices will be heard this season and the company has made excellent headway. The chorus is much stronger than in previous years, and the revue this season promises to be the most outstanding yet produced. The company holds regular practices in the Soldiers' Hall, the final practices prior to the dress rehearsal, will probably be held in the theatre. The revue will be entitled “Banned Frolics,” and the proceeds will be devoted to the Hokitika Municipal Band. RUGBY SUB-UNION. Mr. H. V. Algar presided at the weekly meeting of the Sub-Union, held on Thursday evening. Kiwis, Excelsiors and St. Mary’s nominated teams for the Senior grade competition. After a general discussion, it was decided that the senior teams play in the West Coast competition. The fixtures would be announced next week, and the senior competition would start on Saturday, April 10. The following; nominations were received for the jdnior grade competition: Kiwis, Excelsiors, Pirates, Ross, Kokatahi and St. Mary’s. It was decided that the junior competimatches commence on Saturday, ■ril 17. following players were re■ided as juniors: H. Diedrichs, J. J. Michel and T. E. Jones, ■e player was reinstated from ■ague to Rugby. One fourth grade ■d one fifth grade team was nomin■?d in the Greymouth competition* ■e Sub-Union is to assist with ■tvelling arrangements. ■The chairman was authorised to ■range for the grounds to be mark- ■ and posts erected on No. 2 field, ■e chairman and secretary with the ■?asurer are to arrange for petrol ■ocations for travelling teams. ■The Junior Advisory Board re■rted that arrangements were completed for the assembling of all lotver grade players at Cass Square on 1 Saturday, April 10. Fixtures for to-morrow are: Excelsiors v. Celtic (Greymouth), at Cass Square; Rovers (Granity) v. Kiwis, at Cass Square. St. Mary’s were granted permission to travel to Granity. The Hokitika Borough Council granted I,he use of Cass Square on the usual terms and conditions for Saturday matches.
