Lady Hicks, who married Sir Stanton in England in 1925, intends to settle in the South Island. Though at first reluctant to dusciss her affairs, Lady Hicks said the divorce proceedings caused a sensatioin in Adelaide, where the case was given a great deal of publicity. From her handbag she produced a newspaper report, which stated that the divorce, which was on the grounds of adultery with a young Victorian woman, was undefended. Sir Stanton, who was born in Mosgiel 56 years ago, is Professor of Human Physiokwv at Adelaide University. During the war, with the rank of colonel, he was director of Australian army catering. 'She younger of their two children, a boy aged 11, is at school in Christchurch. The older, aged 17, is completing his schooling in Adelaide.
Wearing a smart mustard tailored costume, Lady Hicks said Adelaide was a beautiful city, but she was defmitetly unimpressed with Sydney, whose people were “very cosmopolitan, highly painted and addicted to the new look.” In her opinion this fashion is not becoming and will not continue for any length of time.
