RUGBY FOOTBALL Inangahua Sub-Union
Mi’ A. G. Reid presided over the annual general meeting of the Inangahua Rugby Sub-Union when the following wei’p present: Messrs D. Cartwright and T. C. Dellaca (Waratah), W. Mackie and P. Coghlan (Cronadun), K. Cutbush, W. Corkoran and C. Dittman (United.), G. McInroe (Ikamatua), A. C. Cleaver (treasurer) and J. Dellaca (secretary). Apologies for non-attendanc fl were received from the delegates of the Inangahua and Waiuta Clubs. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Mr Geo. Crossman. The financial statement and annual report were submitted to the meeting and were adopted as highly satisfactory. The finances of the union are in quite* a healthy position and the report referred to the highly successful season which had been enjoyed last year. Competition had been very keen and the gate receipts had reached a peak not exceeded for a long period of years. Altogether, it appeared that football w r as definitely on the improve throughout, the district. The election of officers resulted as follows:— ' . , r President: Mr A. G. Holden, G. Mclnroe and Junction nominee. Referees: The following referees were nominated: Rev. Fr. Kirby, Messrs W. Hunt, J. Crossman, J. Dellaca, C. Dittman, W. Maher (Waiuta) and G. Pope (Ikamatua). Messrs A. G. Reid and A. Cleaver were appointed to represent the Subunion at a meeting to be convened bv the R.S.A. with a view to conduct of queen carnival for R.S.A.’ funds. Mr A. G. Reid was appointed to represent the Sub-union on the Wai Memorial Committee. It was resolved to mak ft footballs available to each of the following schools: R.D.H.S., Reefton Convent. Ikamatua, Waiuta, Junction and Black’s Point.
The Waiuta Club was granted permission to play a friendly game against St. ,Marys’ (Hokitika), at Waiuta on April -4, and the local clubs arranged to play friendly games on the racecourse on the same date. The competition play for prennei trophy (Stallard Cup) is to commence on Sunday April 11. Further efforts are to b e made to ■floodlight a training area on the Strand Domain. Letters of appreciation are to be forwarded to the members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade (Messrs PGilmour and D. Kidd), who have been in attendance at Reefton games and to the Ambulance representative at country fixtures. Appreciation of the services rendered as a referee by Mr R. Cox (Ikamatua) were placed on record, and the best wishes extended for success. in his new sphere as a golfer. WEEK-END TE/zMS.
