CRICKET FIJI UUST FAIL TO BEAT POVERTY BAY

P.A. GISBORNE, March 30. An exciting finish to the match between the Fijians and Poverty Bay was witnessed by a big crowd to-day when the tourists, by a margin of three runs, just failed to snatch an outright victory. The game was drawn.

The Fijians, in reply to Poverty Bay’s 269 in the first innings, knocked up' 271 for eight wickets, and declared. Ninety minutes were left when the home side began their second innings, and Poverty Bay declared with four down for 74.

The Fijians, with 34 minutes left in which to make 73 for an outright win, pasted the bowling all round the field, making 70 at stumps. The visitors lioisted 50 in the last 16 minutes. Bula delighted the crowd with an exhibition of big hitting, including many boundaries in his 84. Fenn also' gave a dashing display in his 40 not out.
