DANISH TEXTILES OFFERED N.Z.
AUCKLAND, March 29
The Danish textile industry was eager to establish a market in New Zealand and if possible open mills, said Messrs E. Bremner and J. Johansen, representing two Danish textile mills, who arrived in a chartered Skymasber from Sydney today. “We will be in New Zealand for about three weeks to confer with Government officials with a view to obtaining licenses to ext ort cloths to the Dominion,” said Mr Johansen. Denmark, he aded, imported from New Zealand a large quantity .of raw material and textile production in his country had almost reached the pre-war level. Denmark, however, had to export at least 50 per cent, of its production to maintain industry on an economic basis. So far New Zealand had not imported Danish cloths, the bulk of the Dominion’s requirements being met by Britain and Australia. If talks in New Zealand were satisfactory they hoped to establish an export trade to the extent of £lOO.OOO a year and establish a small fasjory "in New Zealand, staffed by about 200 workers.
Their negotiations in Australia were unsuccessful, Mr Bremner said, as Australia was producing sufficient cloth for her own use. He had seen Australian products as far afield as India and the Malav States.
