THREE SHOPS BURGLED IN TIMARU FOR SWAG WORTH £245

P.A. TIMARU, March 30.. Thieves broke into three shops in Stafford Street, Timaru, during the Easter week-end. More than £lOO worth of goods was taken from the hardware store of Messrs Provan Brothers. There was £6O in cash, and goods valued at £B5 taken from a fish shop owned by Mr J. H. Smail. The third shop which was entered suffered no loss of stock. The fish shop proprietor suffered no loss of goods, but his business acts as an office for the Timaru Caledonian Society. A cupboard containing the Society’s books' was forced, and a bag containing £6O in cash, also 1500 cigarettes, and 60 gold bars for pipers’ uniforms, each valued at £1 6s, were stolen. At Provan Bros’ store the cash box was overlooked, cutlery being the main line removed.
