Czech Delegate to Britain Decides Not to Return
LONDON, March 29. Mr Ivan Blatny, the 29-year-old Czech poet and writer, who arrived at London on March 27, as a member of a delegation from the Czech Syndicate of Authors, announced todav that he is resigning from the syndicate and from the Communist Party. He will not return to Czechoslovakia. l . The delegation came as guests ol the British Coucil. Mr Blatny saia that if ho followed the official Cezch instructions he would have to assure the British public that the yzech situation was the expression ot the people’s will. “Conscience forbids me to spread such lies,” Mr Blatny said. “The Communist Party has sent out instructions to all the Czech writers. These give a list of the themes for poems. The instructions told the writers to celebrate the May election’s in which, according to the instructions, the. people will confirm the authority of the Communist Party under the wise leadership of Clement Gottwald.”
