BRITISH COAL ARRIVES FOR N.Z. RAILWAYS
P.A. WELLINGTON, March 30. Believed to be the finest shipment of hand-picked coal to leave the United Kingdom, about 9000 tons of coal, from Lancashire, arrived in Wellington to-day, brought by the Rocky Mountains Park. The coal is for the New Zealand railways. This is the first shipment of coal to be exported from Britain to New Zealand since 1939.
It was stated by the Railways Department that it is the first shipment of British coal that it has received since 192'4. The coal on the Rocky Mountains Park is believed by the crew of the ship to be the finest coal to have been shipped from the United Kingdom at anv time. The coal - s classed “Grade Al” by the National Coal Board. This shipment will be followed by one of a similar amount in the Broom Park, which is due at Auckland from Immingham on Sunday next.
