When a motor car went over a bank at Allandale, between. Governor’s Bay and Charteris Bay, a man was killed and three persons were injured. The man killed was Rewi Frank Brunsden, aged 49, a married man, of 29 Brittan Terrace, Lyttelton, a truck driver. The motor-car was driven by his son Ross Brunsden. The driver, his mother and Mrs. Mary Ellen Crysell, aged 65, mother of Mrs. Brunsden, were taken 'to the Christchurch Hospital.

Those holding land, the unimproved value of which is more than £5OO, according to the Government valuation, have to furnish a return of such land each year. This returnshould be completed and forwarded (as directed in the notice appearing in this issue) on or before the 9th., April. Any person neglecting to furnish a return is liable to a penalty not exceeding £lOO. Neglect .to furnish returns at the prescribed - time not only renders taxpayers liable io prosecution but also in many cases for considerably more tax than would otherwise be payable. The unimproved value is the value of tne land exclusive of buildings, fencing and other improvements. Forms are obtainable at all post offices anti at offices of the Land and Income 'fax Department.

Intending to settle in Christchurch and export New Zealand produce to Burma, Mr A. H. Duckworth, one of thousands to trek overland from Rangoon to India during the Japanese invasion, has arrived at Auckland by air from Sydney with his wife, son and daughter. He said his job had shown him what Burma needed.
To-day (Wednesday), March 31. until 4 p.m. is the last opportunity of paying Greymouth Borough Council rates without the additional charge of ten percentum.—Advt.
The Price Tribunal has authorised Lever Brothers, New Zealand, Ltd., to increase the selling prices of their soap products to an extent which will recover additional net revenue (before taxation) not exceeding £47,000 a year, calculated on an annual production of not less than that estimated by the applicants. “The company will therefore be required to absorb £66,227, the difference between the increased costs and the relief granted by the tribunal’’, states the judgment.
During the storm on Sunday, the sea backed up the river at Hokitika to within a couple of feet of the top of the wharf. The wind brought flown a number of trees and aerials, and at the Mental Hospital power lines were displaced.
A seven-year-old girl, Margaret Rutledge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Rutledge, of Tainui Street sustained head injuries when she fell from a bicycle, having been admitted to the Grey Hospital. Yesterday her condition was reported to be satisfactory
To-day (Wednesday), March 31 at 4 p.m. is the only day left to pay rates to the Greymouth Borough Council and so avoid the 10 percentum penalty.—Advt.
