By-election Leads to Libel Action

LONDON. March 22 Mr Lance Mallalleu, Labour candidate in the Brigg by-election, has instructed his solicitor to issue a writ for libel against the Conservative candidate, Mr Anthony Fell, and his agent. Mr Fell said he was quite content to have the matter settled in Court. Mr Mallalie claimed that Mr Fell and his supporters had alleged that Mr Mallalieu evaded his responsibilities during the war by taking up residence in Southern Ireland. In a letter to Mr Fell, Mi- Mallalieu says he went to Eire in 1937 and that he could not 1 undertake military or other war service because of physical disabilities. Mr Mallalieu quoted certain statements made on Conservative posters which he said had been advised constituted gross libel.
