REEFTON HOSTEL TO OPEN ON APRIL 17
The Reefton Miners’ Hostel wil. be formally opened on April 17 oy the Minister of Labour, Hon. A. Me Lagan. Present with the Minnie, will be officials of the Mines Department and the Labour and Em ployment Departments, under whose jurisdiction the hostel will be conducted. Thp public is invited to hi present. 'The hostel, which has been the home of IS British immigrants ioi several, weeks .has not been fully h use, thp cooking facilities, fcr .n stance, not yet having been installed However, after April 17 the hostel will house 52 men most comfortably In addition to these, there is to be a staff of 'S. AU modern convenience? are included in the hostel. Th kitchen, which is in the main bloci. is all electric, with thp exception 0. an Aga stove. Also in the main block are a dining room , lounge, recreation room, reading room and writing room. Quarters for the staff are also included in the main block and in this each staff member will have his own room as well as the us? of oflier rooms. Fo,- thp manager there is a five-roomed, fully-furnishei? flat. In the ablution block, there areshowers and baths as well as to’let rooms. Also there is a laundry, drying room and ironing room for thmen to wash and iron their clothes Bedroom accommodation consists ol 11 hutments, in each of which there are four rooms. Each room, for one man, has a fireplace, a lowboy and built in wardrobe. The whole of the hostel is well furnished throughout, and thp general public will be invited io look through the buildings on the opening day.
