Truman’s Tax Veto Over-ridden
WASHINGTON, March 24. The House of Representatives today passed by 226 to 66 votes a Re-publican-sponsored Bill to reduce income taxes by 4,800,000,000 dollars. The vote was 52 more than is necessary to over-ride the expected Presidential veto. The Senate has already approved the measure, which now goes to President Truman. The Bill removes 7,400,000 low income wage-earners from the tax rolls.. Eighty-four Democrats joined the Renublicans in voting for the Bill. The United Press says that: approval of the reduction came at a time when the United States military leaders are reported to' be ready to propose that the defence budget be increased from 11.000.000,000 to 21.000.000,000 dollars in viw of the tense world situation. ’l’his would give President Truman, who has already vetoed two tax-cut measures an important argument for vetoing this one.
