No Transfer of Anzac Holiday
A matter upon which the New Zealand R.S.A. lias made numerous representations to the Government is the provision made in the Arbitration Court awards in the past where by, when Anzac Day falls on a Sunday, a holiday can be observed on the Monday or some other day. it was felt by the N.Z.R'.S.A. that such a provision was not in keeping with the spirit of the Anzac Day Act. The matter appears to have now been resolved bv an assurance from tne Minister of Labour that in practically all awards of the Court, of Arbitration, where Anzac Day is included i:i the holidays, the following clauseis inserted: "Should any of the above holidays fall on a Sunday, then foi the purpose of this award, it shall be observed on the following Monday." Three vears ago, the Minister met representatives of the Federation of Labour, Shop Assistants Union and New Zealand Drivers Federation, as well as representatives of the N.Z R.S.A. and the following recommendation'was agreed to by all tne parties concerned: “That any reference to Anzac Day as a special holiday, be deleted from awards and industrial agreements and that, another day to bp mutually agreed upon between the parties to each award or industrial agreement be inserted. The effect of this will be that in future Anzac Day will u? observed on the day on which it actually falls and will not be transferable to another day, should it ial. on a Sunday.” It is also agreed that as Anzac Day is observable as a Sunday, in aceornance with the Anzac Day Act, payments of Sunday rates of pay fo: work that must be done on that day. should continue.
