REEFTON NOTES
(Our Own Corresnondent) REEFTON. March 2-4. , A social was held in the Knox Church hall on Tuesday evening. Games, competitions, and items helped to make a most enjoyable function. Items were given by Miss E. Burns, Miss E. Hannah and Miss I. Ford. Mr W. J. Duff, on behalf of the members of the church, presented Mr and Mrs R. Hope with a salad set. Mr Hope suitably replied. The Ladies’ Guild provided a dainty supper. and the evening came to a close with the singing of “'Auld Lang Syne”. Mr G. Murtha, an employee of the Reefton Erewery, had the misfortune to break a toe when a barrel fell on his foot. Replacing a steam engine, a new 99 h.p. diesel motor has recently been installed at Gilsennan’s sawmill at Rotckohu, near Reefton. It v, ill operate two breaking-down saws, a docking saw and two breast benches, and it will assist the mill towards'an output of 5000 super feet of timber per day. Five men are employed at the mill. Coal consigned from Reefton last week totalled 2328 tons. This was an increase of about 100 tons on the consignments for the previous week. Tt the annual meeting of the Reefton Businessmen’s Association it was decided to support the proposal to organise a queen carnival in Reef con to assist the Reefton R.S.A. The following ollicers were elected for the year:—President. Mr J. Deilaca; vice-president, Mr T Weir; secretary, Mr H. W. Armitage; committee, Mrs Campbeli, Messrs H. Warstron, C. McElwee, W. J. Duff, J. Patterson, F. Boot and C. Lawn.
