At the present time, some new buildings under construction, wncn completed, will be an acquisition to the town. Messrs Irvine and Stevenson’s whitebait canning factory nas been commenced. It will be built in brick with concrete tie beams, and will be very modern with the most modern canning machinery installed. The Princess Theatre is also being renovated, and the outward appearance has been completely redesigned. ,The Gael arrived at midnight on Wednesday from Tarakohe. After the discharge of her cargo of cement she will load timber and silver pine posts fer Wellington, and .is timed to sail at 1 a.m. on Friday. The playing area at Cass Square is now much improved as a result of the efforts of the Cass Square Improvement Committee. The area has been resown, and the grass is coming away nicely. Members of the Athletic Club hold practices almost eveiw evening. Mr E. G. Walker is responsible for holding the athletes together and is doing good work among the various sections, i'acluding softball clubs. There is room for many more trainees at present. The ladies cricket club practices each evening, and promises to do very well. Some of the older cricketers take an interest ''in the team and assist with the coaching.
