RUMANIAN REGIME’S GAOLING OF PEASANT LEADER CONDEMNED
LONDON, January 28. The stenographic records of the trial of the Rumanian Opposition leader, Dr Julius Maniu, were censored before publication, and the crimes of which Dr Maniu and his associates were accused would not be considered crimes in a democratic State. The Minister of State, Mr Hector McNeill, told the House of Commons that this was reported by members of the British Legation in Bucharest, who attended the trial on October 29 last. Many of the accusations were quite unproven by any standard which would be recognised in an English court of law.
