Australian Pound Not to be Altered Yet
(Rec. 9.0) CANBERRA, Jan. 29 No consideration has yet been given to an alteration of the exchange rate between the Australian pound and sterling according to the Prime Minister, Mr J. B. Chifley. He added that no consideration woukl be given to the question while sterling remained at it present value. The official view is that, if the double franc operates, and operates badly, it will be difficult to hold sterling at its present level. If sterling altered in value, the whole matter would have to be considered.
