Socialists Modify Their Opposition
LONDON, January 28. The Associated Dress correspondent says the French Socialists’ decision to withhold their 103 votes in the Assembly left the Premier, M. Schuman, with a chance of getting a slight majority for the measure.
PARIS, January 28. A Government spokesman announced, after a Cabinet meeting, that the Government has decided to maintain the text of its free gold market Eill, which the Finance Commission of the National Assembly rejected yesterday. The Assembly started debating the Bill at 4.30 p.m., while the Socialists were still meeting privately. The Socialists, after a stormy fourfour meeting, voted by 46 to 36 to abstain from voting on ,the Bill.
