HIGH STANDARD AT GREYMOUTH FLOWER SHOW
Many highly-prized and colourful exhibits from various parts of tne West Coast shone forth in a blaze of glory at the West Coast Horticultural Society’s summer show, held in Hern. Moore’s rooms yesterday. The standard of the exhibits was high, and testified to the enthusiasm of'the competitors. The champion-of-champions bloom, a gladioli, was exhibited by Messrs O. and J. Jackson, winners of the blue ribbon in the gladioli section. Messrs O. and J. Jackson were also awarded three prizes in the open informal decorative section. . In the amateur gladioli section, ihe champion bloom was a Westport exhibit. entered by Mr A. A. Wilkinson, and it attracted many observers, well deserving the championship award for large formal blooms. Miss Craig (Maitai) won the two prizes in the begonia section, while the Rev. J. Sih ester gained highest honours in the informal section. One of the most colourful displays of the whole show was a Buller gladioli and dahlia exhibit, in the form of a huge shield, with the letters, “8.G.D.” interwoven in red on a yellow background. For this unique entry, Miss S. Richards, aged 14 years, of Westport, won a special award. Awards were:— Messrs O', and J. Section C: Dahlias:— Six distinct varieties giant decorative, one bloom to each vase: Mrs Fred Hahn (Ahaura) 1, Mrs George Halm (Ahaura) 2. Mrs Fred Hahn was also awarded a special certificate for the best giant decorative dahlia Decorative (5-inch limit), three varieties, _one bloom to each vase: Mrs H. Bullock, also award for champion medium decorative, 1, Mr A. A. Wilkinson 2. Cactus dahlia, three varieties: Mrs Fred Hahn and special award for champion, 1, Mr A. A. Wilkinson 2.
