FOOD REFORM
ALLIED CONFERENCE Makes Recommendations
[Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.l HOT SPRINGS. June 1. A fifteen-point programme, whereby Governments could immediately improve their people’s diet, without
awaiting the end of the war, has been recommended by the Allied Food Conference here. A programme has been submitted by the Number One Section of the Conference. It is based on the evidence and reports of delegates and nutrition experts from 44 countries. The report urges that the Governments represented at the conference should adopt the following courses: First: Improve the diet of pregnant and nursing women, children, adolescents and low income workers. Secondly: Establish national nutrition organisations and adopt sound food policies. Thirdly: Ensure the equitable distribution of foods. . . Fourthly: Incorporate nutrition courses in the school curricula. Fifthly: Improve the quality of food. A report from the Production and Distribution Section of the conference quoted Britain as a proof that even a nation under grave handicaps of war can assure each section of the community a fair share of the food that is needed for health.
