tOur Own Ccrresponclenti HOKITIKA, June 1. , The sunshine record at Hokitika for the month of May was the highest for the month over a long period, the total being IS4 hours 54 minutes and the average was almost 6 hours . a day. days. , , . , Mrs L. Gibb occupied the chair at. the monthly meeting of the Franz Josef Glacier Women’s Institute. The roll call was a book or magazine for sold ers. A donation of £2 was sent to the Patriotic Committee for soldiers' parcels. Competitions resulted: Best bloom. Mrs E. A. Gibb 1, Mrs Sullivan 2; chrysanthemums, Mrs P. Graham 1, Mrs E. A. Gibb 2; blackberry jelly, Mrs L. Gibb 1. At the funeral of the late Mrs Bassett on Monday afternoon there was a large attendance of friends, including representatives of the Women’s Institute. W.W.S.A. & V.A.D.’s in uniform, who formed a guard of honour at the residence. Rev. K. Hadfield conducted services at the residence and at the graveside.
