THEFTS FROM POWER BOARD. ‘

AUCKLAND, May 31

Karl Donald Ifwerson, 50, clerk, to-day admitted in the Police Court before Mr. Luxford S.M., three offences of theft as servant in the employ of the Auckland Power Board, the sums involved totalling £66 17s Jd monies of the Board.

A Board official stated, in evidence that Ifwerson had been employed as meter reader for nearly four years and when, he left the Board’s service in April, he was receiving a salary of £6 5s 8d weekly. On April 1, witness spoke to accused about an account, and the following week, Ifwerson handed witness a complete list setting out the defalcations which were the subject of the charges. Accused had failed to pay to the Board sums he had received from consumers. Lne offences occurred between February 23 and April 1. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.

ALL BLACK FATALLY INJURED

WELLINGTON, May 30. Cantain Cyril S. Pepper, M.C. aged 31, died in the Wellington Public Hospital at 6.30 this morning as a result of severe head injuries received when he fell from a fourth store?/ window of a residence in Salamanca Road, Kelburn, several hours earlier. He was married and had one child. Captain Pepper was a member of the All Black side which visited Britain in 1935. He went overseas with the 2nd Echelon and served with distinction, gaining the Military Cross for bravery. Through being run over by a truck while in a shallow trench he was severely hurt, lost an eye, and was invalided back to New Zealand in June, 1940. He bdcame a staff officer at Army Headquarters, occupying the post of General Staff Officer to the 3rd Home Guard. He was also particularly active in training officers and men in bush and mountain warfare. '
