JAPANESE AIR RAID

ON AIRFIELD IN INDIA.

LONDON, May 31).

The Japanese sent 16 bombers escorted by 20 fighters to raid the airfield at Chittagong in Eastern Bengal yesterday morning. The raiders were intercepted by Royal Aii- Force Hurricanes, which shot down one bomber and two lighters, probably destroyed one bomber and three fighters, and damaged three fighters and one bomber. Two Hurricanes were shot down, but the pilots were saved. There were a few casualties on the airfield, but little damage.
