ST. COLUMBA CLUB

PRESENTATION TO MR. M. G. KELLY. A large number of members of the St. Columba Club assembled in the Club Rooms last evening to honour Mr. Michael G. Kelly, a Vice President of the Club, whose marriage to Miss Eileen Lord takes place next week. Mr. J. P. Gilbert (President), presided. Proposing the health of Mr. Kelly, the Club Director, Rev. Father F. Kelly, referred to their guest’s work for the Club and parish generally over many years. The Club members appreciated Mr. Kelly’s fine qualities and his enthusiasm in Club activities, and his ready assistance and tactful advice in all matters.

Father Kelly then presented Mr. Kelly with a cabinet of cutlery and a silver entree dish, and wished mm and his future wife health and happiness in their married life. Rev. Father Long said that he felt every parishioner in Greymouth extended to Mr. Kelly and his wife best wishes for a happy married nfe. Father Long paid a high tribute to Mr. Kelly’s work in Connection with parish activities. All admired Mr. Kelly’s choice of his life partner and bather Long said that he wished to extend to them the best wishes of all parishioners for health and happiness in the future. Rev. Father Holohan, Rev. Brother Anthony and Messrs P. D. Clancy, P. Blachfield, J. 1. Mcllroy, Sullivan, L. Phillips and J. D. Cullen, added their tributes to Mr. Kelly’s work for the Club and parish. Mr. Kelly, in reply, thanked the speakers for their remarks and tne Club members for their gifts. Anything he had done for the Club had been well repaid in the knowledge, both spiritual and material, which had been of great assistance to him in life. To have the good wishes and congratulations of members would have been sufficient, but as the Club had chosen to mark the occasion by making a presentation, he was deeply grateful to the members.

Toasts honoured included “The Club,’’ proposed by Mr. J. D. Cullen and responded to by the Chairman; “The Clergy,” proposed by Mr. L. Phillips and responded to by Rev. Father Long and Rev. Bro. Oswald, “The Artists,” proposed by P. D. Clancy and responded to by Messrs C. Blumsky and D. McPherson. During the evening, songs were rendered by Messrs C. Blumsky, .1. Gilbert and D. McPherson, and Mr. McPherson presided at the piano. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and cheers for Mr. Kelly and his future wife, concluded a happy gathering.
