TABLE TENNIS CHAMPION I ‘ DIES [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] SYDNEY, September 22. The death occurred to-day of the State table tennis champion, Cecil Smith, who had been selected to play for Australia against the visiting Hungarians on October 11. STAY-IN BREWERY STRIKE. At the Castlemaine Perkins Brewery, the strikers are continuing their stay-in tactics despite the Industrial Court’s threat to disregister their Union, which decision became effective to-day. It is reported that the employers are now taking steps to eject the strikers. INJURED CRICKETER. BRISBANE, September 22. The condition of the cricketer, Ron Oxenham, is unchanged. A Congress of the Returned Soldiers’ League sitting at Sydney, resolved to urge the Federal Government to check an influx of southern Europeans into Australia. Delegates expressed strong objection to a flow of Italians into rural areas, where, they said, it was impossible to -compete with them.
