[Our Own Correspondent], The construction of the new Fire Brigade Station here has begun, and it is expected that the building will be ready for the demonstration The construction of the Soldiers’ Memorial lias also been started. Mr D. Davis has been elected unopposed to the Ross Borough Council, to fill a vacancy caused by the departure of a former member from the district.
A happy gathering was that recently here at the residence of Mr and Mrs P. Douglas, to celebrate a double birthday, ,the party being given by their daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Hende. The guests of honour were Mrs Douglas and her son, Andrew, whose names were nicely outlined on two excellent cakes. Those present included the Hende family, Mr and Mrs Dettaff, sem#, Mr W. Detlaff, Mr and Mrs Baucke, Mr and Mrs Good, Mr Heveldt, Mrs Clarke, Mr W. Muir, Miss D. Heveldt, Mr R. Scott and several members of the Douglas family. A euchre tourney . was held, Mr Detlaff and Mrs Baucke being the winners, while a number of dances were also held, including a “lucky spot,” the winners being Mrs Heveldt and Mr Scott. Amusements were kept up until the small hours, when Mr Scott proposed the toast of Mrs Douglas and her son, and this was accorded musical honours, the gathering tendering them the best wishes, closing a most enjoyable celebration. The borough streets have been all cleaned of gorse.- The Borough Council has carried a resolution to notify all property owners with gorse growing thereon that it must be removed.
At last meeting the Borough Council decided that all dogs must be registered by the end of the month, or otherwise proceedings will be taken. It was decided also that a notice board be placed at the Council chambers indicating the hours at which the office is to be open. The Mayor, in reply to Cr. May, stated that there was no obligation to supply a statement as to the Mayor’s fund.
