WAIHO NOTES
LOur Own Correspondent]. Mrs. P. Hewett returned to her home in Otira on Thursday after spending a holiday in this locality. Misses K. Murphy and B. Hazeldme, of the Franz Josef staff have left on a holiday visit to their homes in Westport. This locality was the scene of a thunder and hail storm on Tuesday last. No damage was done, but the hail left a heavy coating on the ground for several hours afterwards. Mrs J. D. Hewett paid a brief visit to Hokitika over the week-end. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held on Thursday evening last. There was a good attendance and the competition raised keen interest. The prize winners were:—Bunch of spring flowers, Mrs. McCormack; sponge cake, Mrs. F. Gibb. The hostesses were Mesdames Condon and Barrett. In order to cope with the expected tourist traffic this coming year it has become necessary for several extra rooms to be added to the Franz Josef Hostel. The work is to start immediately, and this will no doubt mean a good deal of work for the carpenters.
