BOXING
U.S.A. CARNIVAL. [Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Received September 19, at 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 17. The Boxing Championship Carnival on October 9th., is arousing only moderate interest. The newspapers are carrying no more than desultory accounts from the nearby training camps. The biggest problem facing the fighters is that of weight-making. All, with the exception of Ross and Garcia, are still over-weight. 'l'hil and Montanez are each four pounds over. A suggestion that if the fights are postponed, for any reason, me contenders should weigh in again, has caused a sharp controversy, but ths Commission may adopt the suggestion. The Boxing Commission’s physician, who has periodically examined the contenders, declares that they are in excellent condition. BERLIN, September 16. “We are not interested in challenges from losers,” was the comment of Max Machon, Schmelling’s manager, on Farr’s oral invitation to Schmelling to fight him. Machon said that Farr had a chance to fight Schmelling in London, if he wanted to, but he went away. Machon added that Schmelling was going to fight Louis for the world title.
