NEW SCHOOLS

OPENED IN WAIRARAPA MASTERTON, September 19. Two new schools of the open air type were opened in Wairarapa on Saturday by the Minister of Education, lion. P. Fraser, in the presence of a representative gathering of the public. In the morning, Mr Fraser opened a side school in masterton East, and in the afternoon he opened the new Carterton school. Among those present were Messrs N. T. Lambourne (Director of Education), W. V. Dyer (chairman of Wellington Education Board) and Hon. W. E. Barnard (Speaker of the ixouse of Representatives). At the opening of Masterton East School on Saturday, the Minister of Education, presented the Royal Humane Society’s certificate to William George Reynolds, who saved a boy from drowning in Ruamahanga River in 1933.
