GUARANTEED PRICES
Southland Farmers SOME PLEASED AND SOME NOT. INVERCARGILL, September 17. Regret that the Minister of Marketing, Hon. W. Nash, had shown no disposition to alter his stand on tne guaranteed price, and also that the dairy farmers’ “front” had been weakened by the carrying of the resolution of satisfaction with the guaranteed price at the Lochiel Factory meeting, was expressed at a meeting of dairy farmers this morning. Delegates who went to Wellington to meet the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and to confer with the Minister of Marketing, reported on their mission to the 150 farmers present. The opinion was unanimous that, in Southland, there would under the price be little left for the farmer after rising costs had been met. After a discussion, the following motion was carried: “That this meeting appoint a committee representing Southland branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and South Island Dairy Association, to formulate a petition to be signed by dairy farmers in Southland and presented to Parliament expressing the views of dairy farmers with regard to the Government's guaranteed price for the current season.”
