Albert William Murdoch, a middle aged carrier, was admitted to the hospital in a very serious condition from a rifle bullet wound in the neck. Hie niissle entering the chin. They stated, at first, that it was an accidental occurrence, and that, owing io shock and to his general condition, it was impossible to question Murdoch. Subsequently, however, the victim’s wife, Mrs Ellen Murdoch, appeared before Justices, being charged with assault, so as to cause actual bodily harm.

Albert William Murdoch, carrier, of 84, Kermode Street, Ashburton, was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital early this morning, suffering from a bullet wound in the ,ncck. Later in the day his wife was arrested and charged with assault, a remand being granted lo next week. Murdoch, whose home is near the Police Station, received a bullet wound about 6.30 a.m. from a J 22 rifle, which had been left loaded in the washhouse. Murdoch was operated on al the hospital, and I his evening his condition is reported to be serious. When his wife, Ellen Anne Murdoch. was arrested, she appeared before Messrs G. Kelly and W. H. Amos. Justices of the Peace, at a silling of the Magistrate's Court, charged with assaulting Albert William Murdoch, so as to cause actual bodily harm. On the application of Sergeant J. F. Cleary, the accused was remanded to September 20. She was released on bail, which was fixed at £5O. She was ordered to report, to the police daily.
