Wellington Trots STAKES TO REFUND. I Per Press Association]. WELLINGTON, September 11. Finishing on splendidly, Refund outstayed the favourite, Sandusky, in the first race for the Wellington Stakes, a classic race for three-year-olds, decided at the spring meeting of the Wellington Trotting Club at Hutt Park to-day. Two’s Loose, the second favourite, was third, but he was squarely beaten. Conditions were good and there was a good attendance. The frack was holding. Results were:— NAI NAI HANDICAP, one mile and a half.—s/3 DEBUTANTE, (L. F. Berkett) 1; 4/6 Winnie Parrish, (B. J. Mackie) 2; 2/2 Indolent, (S. C. Wright) 3. All started. Three lengths; length. Time, 3min. 38 4-5 sec. At a judicial inquiry after the Nai Nai Handicap, it was decided to disqualify Dark Hazard for excessive galloping in the straight, third place being awarded to Indolent. The Wanganui J.C. spring meeting was concluded in fine weather. The course was in excellent order. There was a large attendance. Maia’s Victory IN CHELMSFORD STAKES. LOUGH NEAGH’S RECORD. (Received September 12, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 12. Mala had a convincing victory in the Chelmsford Stakes at Tattersail’s races. The pace-makers early were El Senorita and Silver Standard, but
Mala was always handy and finished strongly. Results: — Tramway Handicap.—Lough Neagh 8.8 (Shean) 1; Prittle Prattle 8.5 (Munro) 2; Might Not 6.7 (Vickers) •3. Seventeen started, including Gold Rod and Golden Treasure. Gold Rod had a good position early, but was not in the leading group at the finish. Lough Neagh seemed to be out of the race early, but swept to the post in a remarkable finish, winning by three-quarters of a length with three-quarters of a length between second and third. The time was 1.23, an Australasian record. Chelmsford Stakes.—Mala 9.0 (MeCarton) 1; Silver Standard 9.4 (Bartie) 2; Allunga 9.11 (Munro) 3 All started. Won by one and a-half lengths; a head. Time 1.51. Spring Handicap.—Vaalmore 7.8 (Badger) 1; Old Rowley 7.2 (Lappan) 2; Osculum 7.7 (Parsons) 3. Scratched: El Senorita, Golden Treasure. Won by a short head; half a neck. Time 2.4 i. Trial Hurdles.— Euphorbus 9.13 (Sholl) 1; Hands Up 9.0 (Young) 2; Colour King 9.9 (Harris) 3. Eight started, including Riposte. Won by 'half a length; four lengths. Time 3.3 d. Bengal Lancer, The Palmist, and Aladdin were unplaced in the Novice Handicap. , Trainer Price says that Gold Rod.. lapse was disappointing, but he has done it before. The horse pulled up well, and was fit when he returned to the stable. The jockey, M. McCarten, said that Mala had a perfect run in the Chelmsford Stakes. No race could have been better run to suit him.
MELBOURNE RESULTS. (Received September 12, 6.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE. September 12., At the Moonee Valley races. Royal Order was unplaced in the Moonee Valley Stakes. Midaci’c and Membo were unplaced in the Mount Cotten! I Steeples, and Desert, Chief was unplaced in the Budgeree Handicap. Jack Horner was unplaced in the Nulla Nulla Welter Handicap. LONDON, September 10. The Doncaster Cup, run at Doncaster, resulted: —Haulfryn 1, Fearless Fox 2, Suzerain 3. Six started. Won by a head, with half a length between second and third. SYDNEY, September 11. The appeal of Jockey Perry was upheld. Heather’s appeal was dismiss-
ed. Davidson’s has not yet been heard.
