The One Tree Hill Road Board has let a contract amounting to nearly £30,000 for constructing a concrete road a mile and a-half in length and 18ft. wide between Auckland and Otahuhu.

The annual meeting of the Greymouth Male Choir was held last night at Harley’s Booms. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President, Mr F. Smith; Vice-Presidents, Messrs Crumpton and Nelson; Conductfir, Mr Savage; Deputy Conductor, Air F. Smith; Librarian, Air Savage; Secretary-Treasurer, Air AV. F. Unwelcome tenants in the form of a hive of bees have invaded a new house at present unoccupied in Warnock Avenue, Richmond, Auckland (says the New Zealand Herald). So far the owner of the house appears to be unaware that he is entertaining gratis some thousands of guests, and no measures have been taken for the eviction. The house is securely locked up, and many of the bees do not seem able to remember the •spot where they gained entrance. The result is that hundreds held prisoner have died for lack of succour, while the survivors are seen crawling over fhe window panes, unable to free them-' selves, and probably puzzled at the open prospect spread before them, so near and yet so far. $
