ARBITRATION COURT.

LOCAL ENGINEERING DISPUTE. The Arbitration Court yesterday helu a sitting here, presided over by Mr Justice Frazer, Messrs A. ’I. Monteith (Workers’ Assessor) and W. Scott v Em ployers’ Assessor) being present, also Mr. J. A. Gilmore (Registrar). The en giueering dispute was concluded and a new award is to be announced by the Court in due course. In this case M:. \V. C. I’rime appeared for the employ ers ami Mr. C. T. Thurston for the Amalgamated Engineering Trades Un ions of M estiand. The .Court considered the Conciliation Council’s reeomumuda tions of January 19, involving wages improvers, piecework and premium bonuses, engineering students and the term of award. The Union assessor ’ask ed for an award on the lines of the Do minion award. The employers asked for an award to be made for the period till a new Dominion award is ma le in Ap r d next only. The Court indicited tm-.t it would go into the points n the Council’s recommendations and anncuueo an award as soon as possible. There being no objections in the chemists’ branch of the Shop Assistants’ dispute, tie Court announced the award would become effective. The application lor the addition of the names of T. Holmes, Ku mara, and W. Wright, Hokitika to ihe dispute was granted. In the Butcher s dispute, Jlr. Prime appeared ‘or the employers, and Mr. A. W. Croskery for the Union. The Union uskc.'i leave to withdraw proceeding-.. Mr. Prime said the employers had received, no no tice of the Union’s intention to withdraw, and had to prepare its argument. His Honour ruled that it was compc - ent for cither party to withdraw at any time previous to the hearing, and grant ed the application.
