ROYAL VISIT.
TO FIJI. Yesterday’s Proceedings. (Recd. Feb. 18 at 9 p.m.) SI'VA, Feb. 18. Several native chiefs, including a grandson of Thakambau, the paramount chief, visited the Renown during this morning. After lunch, the Duke and Duchess of \ ork landed and were wel corned by another large crowd, swelled bv many passengers from the Niagara, "hirh had been speeded up from Auckland to give them an opportunity of seeing Their Royal Highnesses. and whose sailing was postponed in order that this rnijjht be effected. The Duke and Duchess proceeded to Government House for tea, after which they visited the New Memorial Hospital, met the staff and nurses, and chatted with patients. The Duchess tried unsuccessfully to Quell the voluble protests of a small brown baby. Torrential rain fell, and entirely spoiled the motor tour along the Prince s Road, so named to commemorate the Prince of Wales’s visit, and the Rowa Road, preparations were made to entertain them at Sawan s School tor the sons of native chieftains, and also the .Methodist Mission at Davuilevu. Welcome arches of greenery spanned the road, ami the scholars assembled to sing hymns and Fijian songs with a cheerful refrain. It was impossible for the visitors to see a vista of typical Suva scenery owing to the veil of rain, which likewise ruined the reception intended to be held on the quartet 1 deck after the ollicial din ner aboard, at which the Duke ami Ducht‘ss of York entertained the Governor. ’Fhe same company of officials were present as at last night’s fum tion. The decorations had to be taken down ami the guests remained in the royal apartments.
