FLOOD DEVASTATION.
— IN NORTH QUEENSLAND. I Death Roh 36. BRI SB AN E, Fe brua r y 16. Latest advices from the flood-strick-en areas show that the waters are receding disclosing appalling damage. At Ingham alone, the death roll increased to 24, and it is feared that when complete reports are received from other districts, the number of deaths will be greatly increased. Special police have . been sent to all the stricken areas to assist in the burial of bodies as they are recovered. The first news received from Stone River, which is one of the principal growing districts, reports enormous dpmage., but no loss of life. A report from Cairns states that a fishing party of five left Green Island before the cyclone broke out, and have not since been heard of. It is believed that they perished. ENORMOUS LOSS" OF SUGAR. BRISBANE, February 16. Tin’ revised flood death roll places the total at thirty-six. Orje authority at Cairns has estimdt cd the loss ,of sugar at approximately £600,000. The weather is now fairly fine. All shipping on the coast has been account ed for.
