- ■— IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.

Mr H. E. Holland’s Criticism.

(Per Press Association). WESTPORT, February 14.

Speaking at Burnett’s Face yester day morning Mr. 11. E. Holland, M.F, Leader of the Opposition, said that the work of the Imperial. Conference had been practically resultless in decision • that would give satisfaction to the people of the various Dominions. In the matter of their status, the Conference had left them still,at the mercy of English diplomacy, in their .International relationships. When, he said, the British statesmen, disregarding the Covenant ot the League of Na? (lions, and in violation of treaty, made, their concentration of armed forces on Chinese territory, they gave the Dominions no voice in the matter, although if this British policy resulted in. war, then every Dominion would be involved. There was a growing septimeut everywhere, said Mr. Holland, that the Dominions must not be committed to policies, or to war, through acts, unless it was on the decisions of their own peoples. The idea ,of the Empire had to make way for the greater conception of the commonwealth which would transform Britain and her present Dominions and dependencies into an association of free and equal peoples.
