OPENING A' LETTER

At the Magistrate's Court yesterday 'before Mr Grooke S.M., Mrs Read and W. Kelly were charged with opening- a letter belonging- to Mrs Gunn and after reading same destroyed it.

Mr Guinness appeared for plaintiff and Mr F. D. Sargent for defendants.

Thomas T. King, chief postmaster at Greymouth, said he rememtfereH Mrs Gunn calling on him on April 7th and complaining that a letter addressed to her had not been delivered. He wrote to Mrs Read and that lady told him she had received it and opened it as it was addressed to her care. The letter was addressed "Mrs Gunnie'* and not Mrs Gunn.
