(By Telegraph—Per press Association) ; OHRISTCHIIRCH, April' l7. The trades and Labour ..Council's Federation* of Labour conference opened to-day. J. Reardon..( Wellington), was elected - President -and'J j. Young- (Christchurch), Secretary of the conference. It was. 'resolved that .the proceedings, except: committee work, be open to (the public and ;'the- -press. A . deputation from the Ironmasters Association re the tariff on importations will be. received -on -Tuesday. A sub-committee was: setup to deal with the labour paper executive's annual, report.: ft stated that a-" presentation to Mr E. Tregear.of an •illuminated, address and of a purse of sovereigns to Mrs Tregear will 'be mnde on Thursday. The report also deals with various matters -that arose during the year and stated that efforts to effect " an amalgamation with <the Miners Federation of Labour, had been unsuccessful.
