LABOR AMALGAMATION -■ (By Telegraph — Per Press Associatio-a) OHRISTCHUROII, April 17. The question of the Amalgamation of the two federations of labour, at present existing- in the Dominion, the New Zealand Federation of labour reigdstered, commonly referred to as the Miners Federation, and 'the New Zealand Trades and Labour Council Federation of Labour, was discussed : at some length, by the- Trades and Labour Conference thas morning-, the . speakers expressing 1 opinions favourable to 'amalgamation. Mr R. ißreen (Otago) moved "that the Oonference.be requested to make a further effort to ibrinig about an amalgamation of the two federations of labour." After long discussion, the opinions of speakers beimg dn favour of the proposal, the motion Avas agreed ,to unanimously. Tt was decided to telegraph to the Secreitary of the Miners' Federation- and ask that a conference should be ' held as early as. possible for the -purpose -of -.brin<ging about tan amalgamation. ; ■Mr -McLaren igiave notice to .move "That a .committee be set *ap (to go into, the matter and report on the basis of amalgamation.
