Captain White did Sio'st of the running to the straight' the i winner came with a rush on Lager and won by three, lengths, a head between the second, and third. Time 1.17# Gold Tread got badly away and finished in the ruck. Champagne Stakes.— Postadas 1, Willaria (carried 9.4) 2, Borroso, There were seventeen starters. There was considerable delay at the start. Gidgiel dwelt at the post. Pride, Murillo, Sweet Malt, and Miribexia were the most prominent. There was a packed field to the turn, where Murillo took charge. Willari and Borroso were the nearest attendents. Borroso Joined the leader in the straight. Posa das, (gradually improving his position, came through at the distance and won by 'two lengths. Willari beat Borroso by three lengths. Time I.IBJ. THE CUP. Moorilla, 7.1 (Hood) -r... 1 'Byplay (Wood) • 2 Eric (Hood) 3 The non-starter was Dorando. There was a good start. Callboy, Applepie, , and Eric were the first to show out. At the straight Callboy was. leading Mindful, Miss Corelli, Applepie, with Lad last. Before recahing the mile Adagio todk'charge f rom Herova and followed Applepie, Flavinius, Eric' Oallboy .and Blue Gem. Adigio led past the six furlongs with Applepie the nearest, then Flavinius, Miss. Corelli, and Herova. Reaching the ' four- furlongs, Moorilla, Blue Gem were together and led, followed by Flavinius. Adgio, Mindful, Patronatus, iOrown ■ -Derby. Into jthe straight Moorilla landed clear of Eric who wa swell ahead of Flavinius, Blue Gem, Mindful." ' Goin^ strong, Moorilla won by three lengths, five lengths ibetween second and third. Then Mil, Mindful. Oown Derby, Blue Gem, Patronatus Avith Callboy last. Time 3.36£. First Steeple. —^No trouble 1, Bowdale 2, 'Confederate 3. Fcur started. Won by three lengths. Time 5.40. First Nursery Handicap.— Jacamar 1, Psyttyx 2, Cisco 3. Nineteen start- . cd. . The wjnner was prominent throughouit. and came away at the distance and won easily by seven lengths Time lA&h Local Handicap. — Squies 1, Sentronus 2, Reg- 3. Fifteen started. There was a good finish. Won .by a length and a half.
There was dropping rain throughout the day and frequent) heavy showers. Considering the weather, the attendance was large. The going was heavy and the finish unexciting.
