WHAT HAPPENED TO THE "QUEEN."
Trie coastal steamer Queen of the South which arrived at Foxton from Wellington on Wednesday was report ed on Monday to have been seen making towards the South Spit at Foxton whilst endeavouring to neg--ouate the Bar. This report was correct. Further details show that the little steamer, whilst trying to enter the river on Friday, touched on the bar, and, owing to the set to the tide to the south, became unmanageable. She was carrieß down towards the South Spit for! a distance of three miles, out, fortunately, man aged to strike smooth water. Her captain (Captain Harvey) soon hadthe vessel under control again, and decided to make for Kapiti, where the little steamer remained at anchorage until 6 a.m on Monday. An hour later she approached the bar again, out could not get in, and, therefore, anchored under Kapiti. eventually ar riving at her destination on Wednesday as stated. ' Upon her return to Wellington the Queen of the South will withdraw trom the Welling-ton-Foxton trade for general overhaul and will .be relieved uy the Gertie.
